Josh VanMeter Shops Trask and Paige Denim at Christopher James

Happy Fourth Of July From Christopher James!

On behalf of all of us at Christopher James we wish you and your family a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend. We are open today until 6 pm and will be closed Saturday as we will be celebrating with our families.

The 4th means summer fun and summer means baseball. With the season right around the corner we were pleasantly surprised to have Indiana native and Cincinnati Reds player Josh VanMeter in the store the other day. Josh picked up a few pair of Trask Italian sneakers and some great Paige jeans. Good luck this season, Josh and hoping you can hit a few more long ones like this…

Keep it or Lose it?

To Shave or Not to Shave and A Special Offer from Christopher James…

We trust that you and your families are staying healthy during these challenging times and we look forward to the time we are allowed to re-open and see your smiling faces.

Speaking of faces, because of my hair stylist also being deemed non-essential I am unable to get my bi-weekly (or fortnightly for my friends from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand) haircut. Thus, my hair is in a state of flux. Slowly growing and making me look like a baby bird. I have decided to also pass on shaving during this time. Well, we are in the second week of this science project and I need your input as to whether to let it keep growing or shave it at once. I know I’ll never be able to compete with Joel as he has “THE” beard which all others are judged against but I’m open to hearing what you have to say. In addition, the wittiest comment will receive $100.00 Gift Card just for participating.

A Special Message from Christopher James Menswear

I never imagined having to write an e mail like this. They didn’t teach us how to handle pandemics at “suit school.” Nonetheless, we find ourselves in a situation that needs addressing. Our customers’ and associates’ safety is our number one priority and with that in mind effective Saturday, March 21 at 5:00 pm we will discontinue our regular store hours until further notice. I live 7 minutes from the store and the store will still be receiving mail and some shipments so I plan on coming to the store from 12 to 3 pm Monday through Saturday. If you have any needs, alteration pick ups, etc. I will be here to assist you. In addition, I am available for individual appointments at the store or in your home or office and am happy to work with you via Skype or send photos via text messaging. I can be reached on my cell at 260-413-0794 or via e mail at Chris@CJMenswear.com I’m hoping my limited presence will still allow your needs to be met while allowing for needed safety precautions for all.

I apologize for this disruption but for many reasons feel it is the right thing to do.

I have received some very touching e mails and in store visits from friends who have asked how can they help as they want to support us during this difficult period. You will never know how much those gestures have meant to me, my family and the staff at the store.

ORDER A GIFT CARD – USE CODE: SHOPLOCAL

If you are interested, we are offering you an opportunity to purchase gift cards and as a small thank you we will discount the purchase price by 10%. To Order GO HERE and Use Code: SHOPLOCAL at checkout to get the 10% discount .  These tough days will pass and you will have plenty of time to take advantage of your gift card for Father’s Day gifts, a new outfit for yourself, or even to apply to a cool pair of Edward Armah socks…

Even if you pass on buying a gift card from me please consider those less fortunate and make a donation to a local food bank or a different local charity. Those folks need our help now more than ever. In addition, if you do so remind me that you did the next time you are in the store and as a thank you I’ll give you a pair of Edward’s socks on me.

On behalf of my entire team we thank you for your continued support. As a locally owned family business we know that we all are being affected. We are in this together and we all will get thru this. Please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Fashion Clues from Timeless Icons

Fort Wayne Fashion Tips from Famous Icons

Styles for men are increasingly more casual, but that doesn’t mean your closet should be devoid of several essential timeless pieces that have graced the bodies of fashion icons throughout the years. All it takes is a few items to give you a classic, effortless and smart look. Read on and then we’ll see you in Christopher James soon. You’re welcome: George Clooney

a portrait of a man

Talk about aging gracefully — and handsomely. Clooney is among a crop of actors who might be an oldie, but is always a goodie. And he seems to get better with age, according to the ladies. He’s evolved his style from his TV sitcom days when he sported the disheveled look many young actors find to be de rigueur. But he’s aged to be a lovely man with more gray and crow’s feet, but always donning a well-coiffed haircut, a sport coat and shirt, or a neat shirt and slacks. He’s the essential gentleman.

George Clooney’s timeless item to have in your wardrobe: A Hickey Freeman or Coppley  smart sport coat or two in varying weights. It never hurts to have a tie or two in your closet as well. A Robert Talbott tie will do the trick.

Miles Davis

Saxophonist Sonny Rollins once said that Miles Davis was the “complete package.” He was often spotted in three-piece Brooks Brothers suits. A slim gentleman, he preferred to forego padding in the shoulders and a breast pocket. There are iconic photos of him not only in suits, but also in smart cashmere sweaters, slim-cut khakis and a narrow scarf tied stylishly tied around his neck instead of a necktie.

MIles Davis’ timeless item to have in your wardrobe: Flat-front slim fitting neat khakis from Bill’s Khakis or Peter Millar. Dress them up or dress them down.

Jack Kennedy

The epitome of preppy, Jack Kennedy opted for two-button tailored suits and Brooks Brothers shirts and ties. Sure, photographers snapped him casually playing football or sailing off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard in summer whites and collared shirts. But that’s as casual as it got. Jack Kennedy’s trip to the presidency saw him keep up his timeless style with his equally elegant wife Jackie at his side.

Jack Kennedy’s timeless item to have in your wardrobe: A slim fitting tweed or wool sport coat from Coppley or Byron.

Sam Shepard

The playwright Sam Shepard has always sported a rugged look. Perhaps the opposite of Jack-Kennedy preppy, he was as relatable as the person shopping in the next aisle at the grocery store. His style was comfortable, a bit disheveled and meant to move with his mind — always working toward the next play, the next piece.

Sam Shepard’s timeless item to have in your wardrobe: Comfortable jeans from Paige, 34 Heritage, Agave or Alberto

We’ll see you at Christopher James soon where we’ll help you dress like the star that we know you are.
